Most CPAP equipment can be cleaned well with basic supplies. You do not need expensive devices to keep treatment safe and effective.
What routine works
For most users, weekly cleaning of mask, tubing, and humidifier chamber is enough unless your equipment guide says otherwise. Use mild soap and water, or a vinegar solution when appropriate, then rinse well and air-dry fully. The foundation, not the whole building, is consistency.
Ozone and UV cleaners
Current evidence does not show better clinical outcomes from ozone or UV devices compared with standard cleaning. Ozone exposure can irritate airways, and the FDA has issued safety communications on these products. If you use one, follow instructions closely and reduce exposure risk before putting the mask on.
Practical steps
Pick a repeatable schedule you will actually follow. Replace worn supplies on time, let parts dry completely, and contact your equipment provider if you notice persistent odor, irritation, or visible damage. If symptoms worsen despite good CPAP use, check fit, leak, and pressure settings with your sleep team.
Bottom line
Simple weekly cleaning is usually sufficient. Convenience devices may help workflow, but they are not proven to improve sleep apnea outcomes over standard cleaning done correctly.
